Two puppies stolen from a dog rescue centre have been returned within 24 hours.
The springer/collie cross puppy bitches were taken in the early hours of Tuesday (3) from Valgrays Border Collie Rescue centre in Crewes Lane, Warlingham.
It prompted a big outcry with messages posted on many Facebook sites, a police appeal and the printing of dozens of posters appealing for the pups' return.
The pups were left on the centre's doorstep at about 3am on Wednesday.
Val Phillips, who runs the centre, said: "I'm absolutely elated to get them back.
"Maybe the thieves got scared by all the publicity."
She said she had been "devastated" by the theft - the pups were about to be re-homed with loving families.
