A YOUNG man suffered several wounds following a reported stabbing at Copthorne Hotel.
The 20-year-old was attacked with a Stanley knife at the four-star resort in the early hours of Monday, according to police.
Officers were called to reports of a stabbing at the site, in Copthorne Way, at 1.05am, where they discovered the victim had been cut and scratched.
The incident involved two members of staff at the hotel.
A 26-year-old man was arrested for assault and questioned by officers from Sussex Police, but was later released without further action.
However the hotel's vice president of sales and marketing for Europe, Richard Adler, has dismissed any notion of there having been a knife involved, or that anyone was injured.
He said: "I can assure you there was no stabbing and no injury of any kind. There was an altercation between two members of staff and it was dealt with."
However a spokesman for the company, having spoken with the police, later accepted that there had been a knife involved and injuries had been sustained by a staff member.
