A WOMAN was shocked when she was secretly filmed as she got changed in a Caterham sports centre changing room, a court heard. Perpetrator Christopher Collins later admitted to police he had committed similar acts before, also at de Stafford Sports Centre in Burntwood Lane. He had also taken pictures up women's skirts in supermarkets, Redhill magistrates were told on Tuesday. Collins, 35, of Hamsey Green Gardens, Warlingham – the father of a two-year-old child – was given a conditional discharge for 18 months. He was also ordered to pay £300 to his 36-year-old victim, as well £87 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. The defendant had admitted a charge of attempted voyeurism. Prosecutor Carol Fern said the incident happened in the unisex cubicles on March 19. Mobile She added: "The woman saw a hand appear under the cubicle, holding a mobile hand which was pointed towards her. "She shouted 'oi', and he removed his hand." Collins, who was found in the toilets soon afterwards by sports centre staff, claimed initially that he had merely been tying his shoelace while holding his phone. But he later admitted to police that he had done the filming for his own sexual gratification – and had carried out similar ventures on other occasions, "in single figures", since Christmas. Defence solicitor David Forsyth said Collins' in-laws had disowned him. He added: "Mr Collins' marriage is on the rocks as a direct result of this." Sentencing Collins, magistrate Michael Staples said: "You obviously feel ashamed of yourself. "It has had a traumatic effect on your life. "I would advise you not to go back to that leisure centre again."
