MUNROE RITCHIE added yet another medal to his collection this weekend at the Sainsbury's UK School Games.
After a tough competition, the Brockham hammer thrower secured a bronze medal helping his team win the overall athletics competition.
This prestigious home international event, involving more than 1,600 of the UK's best athletes taking part in 12 different sports, was in its third day when Ritchie stepped into the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield representing South East England and the Ashcombe School.
Ritchie was competing against throwers from the four other regions of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
At 15 he was the youngest competitor in the event but hoped his performance this season would be enough to counter the experienced older boys.
Ritchie said: "I really hadn't expected to be picked to come here but I was looking forward to competing at the home of Jessica Ennis and Sebastian Coe.
"It was a chance to meet Ciaran Wright from Scotland who is ranked above me."
The hammer competition got underway just before lunch with the eight throwers noticeably feeling the pressure of this important event.
Going first Ritchie was one of only three to register a valid throw with 55.09m.
Wright (Scotland) took the lead with his first throw and kept it to take gold with a best of 66.93m, a new Games record.
Jack Mirfin (North West England) landed a third throw of 56.77m taking him into second position above Ritchie, which he strengthened with a best of 59.29m to get a silver medal.
Ritchie had two no throws but landed 56.20m in the fifth.
He saved his best for last unleashing a final round throw of 58.35m for bronze.
Ritchie said: "I was the opening thrower and it was terrible waiting to see if other throwers would beat my distance, but I did enough on the day to win a bronze medal."
