ATHLETICS: Five young athletes from Dorking and Mole Valley Athletics Club took part in this years Surrey multi-event championships at Sutton Arena with encouraging results.
In the U15 girls' pentathlon Becky Loomes showed consistency across all five events finishing in fifth place with 2366 points, her long jump 4.50metres, her strongest event, and shot putt, 7.51m. In the hurdles she was timed at 13.92secs, finishing with an 800m in 2.44.37.
Lucy Brett was not far behind in seventh position with 2289 points with a 3.99m long jump, 13.01secs hurdles, 6.40m shot putt, 1.42m high jump and 2.38.92 in the 800m.
Also in this competition Emily Hornung finished 12th recording 4.44m (long jump), 1.22m (high jump), 14.6secs (hurdles), 5.45m (shot putt) and 2.45 (800m).
DMV's seniors and veterans took part in this year's Surrey road relays over a 2.9 mile course based on the Wimbledon park track.
The M50 men took the bronze medals with Andy Fay in 17.25 (second) followed by Steve Pumphrey (21.50).
Nigel Stevens moved the team back into fourth with a solid 18.20 before Graeme McKay took another runner recording 18.17. In the M60 category DMV fielded two teams, finishing third and seventh. The M40's had three runners with 16.38 from Michael Rolfe (fourth). Lawrence Bate in 18.22 and David Moore in 16.51. It was disappointing that only Rob Russell and Mathew Rees appeared for the seniors.
The senior ladies had only Georgina Bland who was fourth in 17.34.
A Vet 35 team were fourth with virtually identical times of 20.10 from Louise Schlaeppe (W45), Karen Marshall (W40) and Anne Davidson (W50). Newcomer Susie Brierley (W35) had a time of 23.43.
