A MAN who was charged with the rape of a 21-year-old woman has been cleared by a jury.
Terry Sleet, of Sheridan Place, East Grinstead, owner of Robertsons tea room in Station Road West, Oxted, stood trial at Chichester Crown Court and on Wednesday afternoon was found not guilty of the charge.
There were submissions made and Judge Robert Fraser directed the jury to return the not guilty verdict.
The charge relates to when Mr Sleet, 53, gave the "tipsy" student a lift from outside KFC in Brighton.
Mr Sleet and the woman had sexual intercourse in the back of his car, and she claimed he raped her.
