WHYTELEAFE moved to within a point of the summit of the Southern Counties East League after thrashing Holmesdale 7-0 on Tuesday night. Jason Thompson and Taylor Smith bagged a brace each with Ryan Fowler, Bentley Graham and an own goal completing the demolition. And Leafe boss John Fowler admitted it was the biggest winning margin he had overseen. "I've played in a few games like that but not been involved in one as a manager before, it was just a really good all-round performance," Fowler said. "Holmesdale weren't a bad side; they passed the bad around well in the middle but just didn't threaten us in the final third. "But we just looked like scoring every time we attacked. "It was important to get the three points because it's quite tight at the top of the table." Sam Clayton is set for a spell on the sidelines after breaking his ankle against Phoenix Sports last week, but Fowler has reinforced his squad with former Merstham left-back Alex Penfold and striker Reece Jackson, who made his Leafe debut in Saturday's 3-2 FA Vase extra-time win against his former club, Epsom & Ewell. And it is back to cup action again this weekend when Whyteleafe host Ryman League Division One North side Chatham Town in the FA Cup second qualifying round. "Confidence is high, there is a real buzz around the club at the moment and I think there is a belief we can beat anyone," Fowler explained. "It's a tough game but it is a winnable fixture. "The cup is good for the club financially, and it's good to keep winning but the league is still our priority. A win in the cup would be a nice bonus though."
