CRICKET: Lithon Tarofder was the key contributor as Merstham got their 150th year season off to a flying start on Saturday.

The seam bowler took three runs for 15 runs and, batting at six, scored an unbeaten half century as Merstham beat Wallington by four wickets in the Division Two encounter.

Winning the toss at Quality Street, stand-in captain Andy Rivers elected to bowl and was soon rewarded, Tarofder bowling Punit Makwana for eight, before striking twice more in his nine overs which included three maidens.

Humayoon Nasir, the seventh bowler used, also took 3-32 from six overs and Suliman Younis also struck two wickets.

In Merstham's reply, opener Ashar Syed compiled 36 but partners came and went until Tarofder came to the crease, where he constructed an innings of 52 not out to help the hosts take a great home victory by four wickets.
