CRICKET: Woodmansterne made a disappointing start to their Fuller's County League campaign last Saturday, losing by 36 runs to Chaldon.

The home team were asked to bat on a difficult damp wicket and were in trouble when Alex Squires and George Sims struck to reduce the score to 16-2.

However, a 62-run partnership between Mohbin and Sikander put Chaldon in the driving seat.

A late flurry of wickets, including three for Billy Westbrook, saw Chaldon bowled out for 146. Yet, with the wicket producing variable bounce, Woodmansterne might have felt the target should have been lower had the bowlers been more consistently accurate.

Despite the loss of three early wickets, Woods looked in the hunt at 70-3. However, few batsmen, with the possible exception of Arron Wells, looked comfortable.

The introduction of Abbas and Jerome precipitated a collapse, as they shared seven wickets, including Wells for 31. Woods were all out for 110, falling well short of their target.
