CHARACTERS from the Lion King and Cats are set to dominate this year's Horley Carnival.

The theme for this Saturday's annual event is musicals, so visitors can expect to see plenty of people dressed up.

Taking place in Horley recreation ground, off the A23, the carnival is free to enter and runs from noon to 5pm.

Its centrepiece is the parade, which sets off from the Victoria Road car park at 1pm. From there it will travel along Massetts Road, Russells Crescent, Victoria Road and the A23, before heading into the recreation ground.

Led by the Redhill Corps of Drums, it will be made up of floats from local organisations and schools.

There will be competitions for the best float and a children's fancy dress competition for groups and individual entries.

There is no need to pre-book to enter.

Judging of the fancy dress and the carnival floats will be carried out by Sam Gyimah, MP for East Surrey, Lynne Hack, mayor of Reigate and Banstead, and Richard Olliver, the Horley mayor.

Other attractions include a model railway, bands, dance groups and a rock choir.
