NIGHT owls Andrea Oxlade and Debbie Carpenter are saddling up for the adventure of their lives.
By day they work for a property management firm in Oxted. But this Saturday night, the intrepid duo will join forces to take on a gruelling but exciting challenge cycling around London's landmarks.
At a time when many people are getting ready for bed, mother of four Debbie and mum of two Andrea will be setting off on a 100 kilometre (62.5 mile) tandem ride.
And the pair are relying on Bessie the Boneshaker to get them around in one piece.
Property manager Debbie, 45, of Oakdene Road, Brockham, and property administrator Andrea, 40, of Beadles Lane, Old Oxted, will join thousands of others in the Nightrider Challenge.
Setting off from Crystal Palace, their route will take them past many of the capital's iconic landmarks, including Piccadilly Circus and Tower Bridge.
They will be raising money for Fetcham-based charity the Lifetrain Trust, which provides training and life skills for young and disabled people.
Andrea told the Advertiser: "We are both busy mums. Although we do keep fit we haven't had much time for cycle training.
"The bike is not very modern and a bit clunky – we lovingly call it Bessie the Boneshaker – so it should be an interesting challenge!"
She said she was persuaded to take part by Debbie after she completed the course in just over six hours last year.
Debbie has also proved an inspiration in another way.
She ran the London Marathon two years ago, and then persuaded Andrea to do likewise last year.
Andrea added: "Debbie talks me into all sort of things.
"She gets me into all sorts, including running the Titsey 10k run."
The pair were given invaluable assistance by Oxted School's visually impaired unit which loaned them the bike.
And Petra Cycles in Station Road East, Oxted, restored Bessie and made her roadworthy.
