GODALMING traders are dreaming of a crime-free Christmas after a recent anti-theft event was hosted by the Godalming Safer Neighbourhood Team.
More than 50 local shopkeepers, who are part of the Shop Watch Radio Scheme in Godalming, attended the event back in September at Scats Country Store.
The event showed the shopkeepers how to deal with certain scenarios, and how to use the Shop Watch Radio Scheme.
The radio acts as a link between the local shopkeepers and the police, and aims to prevent shoplifting and anti-social behaviour.
PC Derek Fry explained: "With more people in the town in the run up to Christmas we felt that it was important to raise awareness of some of the more common types of thefts and equip traders with the knowledge and confidence to deal with any potential offences.
"We got some very positive feedback from all those who attended so we have more training sessions planned for the future.
"With Christmas coming we also want to send out a strong message to anyone thinking of coming into the town to commit crime to think again as you will be caught and arrested."
