A STRONG team of 26 young athletes from Reigate Priory Athletic Club competed at the UK Youth Development League meeting held at the David Weir Stadium in Carshalton on Sunday.
There were many outstanding performances, with a total of 19 personal bests as most of the athletes competed in one or two additional events as well as in their main disciplines.
Lily Grant moved up to third in the Surrey T&F rankings for U13G 800m with a big PB of 2.32.6. Also in the U13Gs, Katie Mackison had a big PB in the javelin with a huge throw of 18.43m. Both girls are Year 6 primary school pupils so will still be competing as U13s next year, making their achievements all the more remarkable.
Other notable personal bests included a double from Hayden Young with a leap of 5.37m in the U15B long-lump and 39.2secs in the 300m. Both were new club records. Poppy Wardley added a full 10cm to her U15G high-jump PB with 1.35m and Thea Wardley in the U15G 1500m knocked more than ten seconds off her previous best time coming home in 5.26.3.
The hurdlers all had a great day with first-place finishes for Anousha Wardley in the U15G 75m, Amelia Watson and Isabel King U13G 70m and Callum Holder in the U13B 75m.
The final UK YDL match takes place in Carshalton on Saturday, July 19
Following on from last weekends Surrey Schools T&F finals in Kingston, six young athletes from Reigate Priory AC were selected in the Surrey Schools team to contest the South East Schools T&F Inter-Counties Championship in Crawley on Saturday.
In the inter-girls 80m hurdles, Sophie Elliss was outstanding clocking up another PB in winning her race in 11.4 seconds.
This equals the third fastest time run in her category in the UK so far this year. Club colleagues Emily Hornung in the long jump, and Clara Grinyer, doubling up in the 800m and 300m races, also competed in the inter-girls. Lucy Hoad was selected but unavailable.
In the Junior Boys 80m hurdles, Hayden Young achieved a new PB (and club record) with a time of 12.0.
Not to be outdone, in the Junior Girls 800m race, Anousha Wardley followed up on two PB's achieved at last week's Surrey Schools finals with another PB, finishing in a time of 2.26.5.
Elliss, Hoad, Horning and Grinyer have all been selected in the Surrey U17 team for an inter-counties match in Portsmouth in July.
