A WOMAN who worked as a midwife at Royal Surrey County Hospital is facing a list of charges relating to misconduct.
Margarita Dobreva Avramova has appeared before the Conduct and Competence Committee at a hearing held by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
She faces 13 charges made against her whilst working at the hospital in Guildford between May 2009 and May 18, 2010.
Among the charges against Ms Avramova are that on November 27, 2009 she intended to give a newborn baby an injection from a syringe containing an air bubble.
It is alleged she failed to check patients' health bracelets and allowed a mother to have a shower with an epidural still in place.
She took no steps to increase a baby's slow heart rate when it was identified and continued to pull on a baby's head during delivery despite being instructed not to, it is alleged.
The NMC  have argued Ms Avramova's fitness to practise is impaired by reason of her alleged misconduct.
Royal Surrey County Hospital (RSCH) sacked the midwife from the Trust in 2010 after concerns were raised.
RSCH said no patients were at risk and that Ms Avramova was always supervised.
A spokeswoman for Royal Surrey County Hospital said: "Royal Surrey County Hospital can confirm that midwife Margarita Avrmarova was dismissed from the Trust in 2010 due to concerns highlighted through our internal capability procedures.
"Due to these concerns, the Trust reacted appropriately by referring her case to the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
"The NMC served her with an interim suspension order which stops her from practicing as a midwife and they are currently reviewing her fitness to practice.
"We can also confirm that while working at Royal Surrey, the midwife was always under supervision and no patients were ever put at risk."
The NMC hearing,  in London, began on November 26 and is  scheduled to last until December 7.
