THE diggers rolled in as the installation of a second all-weather Astroturf pitch at Reigate Grammar School's Hartswood sports ground got underway.

Improvement works will also include a hospitality pavilion, spectator viewing gallery and warm-up area at the 32-acre sports ground.

The project is set for completion in September.

The extra pitch at the ground, off the A217 London Road, will enable improved training and coaching, in addition to allowing the school to host regional hockey training and events.

The school says the development at Hartswood is part of an investment in sport facilities and coaching that is already paying dividends, with record hockey, netball and rugby wins achieved by students during the 2013-14 season.

The improved facilities will also enable the school to increase access for the local community. This includes an extension to outreach hockey training for local junior schools, following the success of an initial programme completed by Reigate Priory Junior School last winter.
