A CANCER patient at East Surrey Hospital has had a very special pre-marriage blessing after staff helped him organise the event in just three days.
Ron Haughty and Rumesa Amer, his partner of four years, were joined by family, friends and staff at the ceremony in the hospital's multi- faith chapel.
The Earlswood couple got engaged two years ago – and with Ron back in hospital for the fourth time this year, they decided they needed something to look forward to.
Rumesa, 52, said: "We wanted to do something to make us happy and confirm our commitment to each other. The staff have all been brilliant. They made us feel so special and couldn't do enough for us."
Ron said hospital chaplain John Glasspool "moved mountains" to make the ceremony happen.
The hospital's catering staff provided a celebratory meal and cake, and the staff on the Tilgate ward decorated Ron's room with balloons and banners.
The 59-year-old added: "Nothing has been too much for all the staff, they are a fantastic bunch.
"With everyone's help the service and atmosphere in the chapel was amazing – I didn't want to leave."
