A MAN who stole money a charity had donated to him to fund a trip for his terminally ill daughter has been jailed.

Albi Elliot, 44, of Vines Cross, Heathfield, East Sussex, was sentenced to three years in prison after stealing £3,500 from a charity in Littlehampton in West Sussex in 2010.

Chichester Crown Court heard how Elliot took the cash from the Sussex British Motor Cycle Owners Club who had donated the money to his terminally ill daughter Ashanti to visit Orlando, Florida and swim with the dolphins.

However Elliot spent the money on himself on trips to Tesco.

Eleven-year-old Ashanti is unlikely to live past 15 as she suffers Hutchinson-Gildford Progeria which means she ages prematurely.

After the verdict was handed down today DC Jennie Hutchinson from West Sussex CID said: "Elliott kept the money and spent it on himself, including his own holidays and general living expenses. I would like to thank all the witnesses involved that have assisted in getting to a guilty verdict."
