FOOD enthusiasts were treated to a feast at the weekend.

Organisers say 5,000 people packed into Priory Farm, in South Nutfield, on Saturday and Sunday, to sample locally-sourced cheese, sourdough bread, scotch eggs, sloe gin, fruit wines and, of course, lashings of strawberries at the farm's Strawberry Fair.

Simon Watson, of Godstone, who dodged Saturday's showers to visit with his 14-year-old daughter Abi, said: "We're really enjoying it. We like to chat to the producers and find out more about their products, and of course there's nothing like the chance to try before you buy.

"My own favourite today is probably the Shemin's curry paste and Abi favours the chocolate ice cream."

The festival, in its fifth year, offers local traders the chance to showcase their products

Those who attended also enjoyed a barbecue and queues soon formed for Priory Farm's handmade sausages and burgers.

Farm owner Nic Shinner was delighted with the turnout. He said: "We must have had 5,000 people through over the course of the weekend and sold nearly half a tonne of strawberries"

Mr Shinner added: "As well as our regular customers we've also been talking to lots of people who've visited for the first time. We've laid on children's activities on the Discovery Walk, so families could make a day of it. The tractor rides have gone down a storm and the rubber duck racing is always a winner."
