DESPITE the rain, one of Reigate's biggest events returned with donkeys, juggling and light sabers at the weekend.

The 6th Reigate Community Festival, organised by the Reigate Events Collective (REC), took place in Priory Park on Saturday.

Held annually since 2009, the festival raises funds for local events, supports arts and sports clubs in the area, and celebrates Armed Forces Day.

REC chairman Kamal Mehmood said: "It was another incredibly successful day; thanks to all our stallholders and performers, the local authority teams and the hard work of all who volunteered to help."

The Tommy Matthews Fairground was enjoyed by visitors of all ages, as was the wide selection of food and drink, including a licensed bar and stands selling locally-made produce and handicrafts.

Children enjoyed free donkey rides and Jedi training with the Galactic Knights, a science fiction costumed group.

Meanwhile, the circus skills tent saw many a dad and grandad showing off their juggling skills. An acoustic lounge offered live music throughout the day with something for everyone, including shelter from the occasional burst of rain.

The Sky Birds of Prey team put on a display in the arena, followed by performances from Hipsinc Belly Dancing and students from the Italia Conti School and Star Steppers.

An exciting finale was provided by the tug of war, which was won by the Community Team, comprising staff from Surrey Police, Sutton and East Surrey Water and Reigate and Banstead Borough Council.
