Fuller's League Division Two
Caterham 217-9
Warlingham 117
Caterham win by 100 runs
CATERHAM kept pace with the Division Two leaders after a comfortable win over local rivals Warlingham.
Caterham lost the toss batting with Rob March (38) relishing facing the new ball.
A mini collapse saw Cats sink to 170-8 with fifth choice bowler Devik Amin (4-39) wreaking havoc. Last wicket pair Daniel Pollard (37) and evergreener Graham Samuels saw Caterham past the 200 mark before being bowled out. Cats took tea in the knowledge that they had a reasonable but by no means insurmountable total behind them.
Caterham opened the bowling with Pollard and Samuels, and Warlingham found the going against the gently propelled ball a struggle. Only a round 50 not out from Dhilan Patel formed any sort of resistance as spinner Pollard led the attack, 4-39. Warlingham quickly subsided with only two players reaching double figures.
A victory by the handsome margin of 100 runs reflected Caterham's dominance through most of the game and takes them into fourth spot in the table.
Meanwhile, the second team visited Southern Railway & Kenley. The home side immediately set about the bowling with a number of flashing strokes. As Caterham took their second wicket Kenley had progressed to 58-2 and the fall of wicket brought in number four Brett Greer who made an imposing 114 not out. As light rain fell early tea was taken and Kenley chose to bat on afterwards, declaring on a significant total 239-5.
A partnership of 80 between Nick House (31) and Richard Parrett (43) saw some in the Caterham camp considering victory a real proposition. A rush of wickets, including House to a vicious snorting bouncer, saw Caterham collapse to 99-4 and reality returned with a jolt. Enter Sid Tumuluri. With a textbook stance and near perfect batting style Tumuluri (25no) defied all odds for nearly 20 overs. Accompanied by Steve Grace (29no) this pair blunted all that Kenley's captain could throw at them. From having felt certain of victory at the innings break Kenley left the field deflated, wondering just what had happened.
The U15 lost to Ifield. The U13 had a strong victory against Felbridge & Sunnyside last Sunday.
