HOME Secretary Theresa May visited Godstone last Thursday.

She accompanied East Surrey MP Sam Gyimah to the Crimestoppers call centre in Fosterdown.

Crimestoppers is the only independent charity in the UK dedicated to helping the police locate criminals and help solve crimes.

Information given to Crimestoppers leads to about 17 arrests each day.

The MPs toured the call centre, which employs about 50 staff and receives 300,000 anonymous calls from the public each year,

Mr Gyimah said: "Crimestoppers has been a hugely effective tool in the fight against crime since the charity was founded 25 years ago.

"Throughout the visit I was impressed by the professionalism of the organisation and the enthusiasm of the Crimestoppers team, and it is a real privilege to see this vital work being done in Godstone.

"My thanks to all the staff at the centre who are making such an enormous contribution to help keep us safe."
