TAILS wagged as the popular dog show made its triumphant return to Merstham's Quality Street Fair on Saturday.
Intermittent showers did not deter crowds from the festivities, which have become a fixture in the town's social calendar.
Alongside the dog show, which featured awards for "cutest dog" and "dog most like its owner", there were also traditional fairground stalls, a barbecue, children's games and a performance by the Furzefield School choir.
Residents also got the chance to take part in some hands-on democracy as Reigate and Banstead borough councillors and Surrey county councillors were put in the stocks to be pelted with wet sponges. Borough councillor Mark Brunt posted a photo on Twitter of county councillor Bob Gardner taking a sponge full in the face with the caption "direct feedback from his residents".
Cllr Gardner said: "It was a fantastic event. As councillors we had the opportunity to have a surgery and meet residents and members of the public.
"There was a little bit of rain but it didn't really stop anyone enjoying themselves. I had a wander round all the stalls and everyone seemed to be having a great time."
The annual fair is organised by Quality Street residents.
