POLICE have increased their patrols in Horley following a 'suspicious' incident during which a man approached a 10-year-old girl.
A Surrey Police spokesman said: "Surrey Police received a call at 8.11am on Wednesday 16 July following a suspicious incident in Jennings Way, Langshott.
"It appears that a man approached a young girl, but did not speak to or touch her. Following this officers from the Reigate and Banstead Safer Neighbourhood Team have stepped up patrols in the area and have also engaged with local schools to offer advice and reassurance."
After the incident, a warning was issued on social media.
The plea, issued by the girl's mother on the Horley Facebook page, said: "My 10 and half year old daughter was walking the dog this morning when a white golf slowed down stared at her did a u turn pulled up next to her opened his car door and the rear door he then proceeded to leave the vehicle whilst the vehicle was still running and came towards her. The dog started barking at him and she became frightened and run home. I immediately ran to the end of the road but he had drove off. He was a middle aged man with greying hair roughly 5"11. Please be aware"
