A public meeting will be held next Wednesday (July 23) to provide information about the on-going investigation into a spate of sports clubs fires in the last month.

Police, including the senior officer who is leading the investigation, and Surrey Fire and Rescue will be on hand to answer questions into the inquiry.

The meeting was announced by new Reigate and Banstead Neighbourhood Inspector Andy Rundle in a letter to residents, in which he invited the public to attend the meeting at The Harlequin Theatre in Redhill.

A number of sports clubs have been targeted in suspected arson attacks in the past month, including Old Reigatians Rugby Club, which has been targeted twice in two weeks.

In the letter Inspector Rundle wrote "During the meeting you will receive an update on the police inquiry from the Senior Investigating Officer who is leading the investigation into these offences as well as the Neighbourhood Inspector for the borough. There will also be an input from a Senior Officer from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service to discuss arson prevention and fire safety.

"Representatives from Reigate and Banstead Borough Council will be present to answer any questions in relation to local authority issues. As a local partnership this is a priority for us and we are keen to address any concerns that you may have and to keep you informed."
