WHILE all the other football in the area fell foul of the weather, Dorking Wanderers were getting on with business at West Humble on Saturday.

They demolished Shoreham with a superb display to end a run of five straight defeats with aplomb.

"It's been coming," beamed manager Marc White afterwards.

His Wanderers side had "not had the rub of the green" in recent weeks and had dropped into the bottom five of the Sussex County League Division One standings.

But they arrested that run with a fine performance at home to Shoreham on Saturday.

They had to come from behind to claim all three points though, as Jonno Melia gave the visitors the lead inside just four minutes.

White was not fearing the worst though.

He said: "I actually took a step back after that goal and said to myself 'is this going to be the day we turn it around' and we did. We were so superior in footballing ability it was clear cut and we destroyed them."

Glen Boosey got the home side back on level terms midway through the first half, slotting home from close range.

By half-time Wanderers were in front when Tom Familton stroked home his first goal of the season from a Jake Hill free-kick.

With the pitch cutting up in the torrential rain, it was a wonder that either side could muster any free-flowing football.

However, Chris Williams, who White has admitted has been "struggling" in recent weeks, found his scoring touch once again to put the game beyond any doubt in the second period.

He smashed home two almost identical 20-yarders on the hour and in the 75th minute.

White revealed it could have been more.

He said: "It could have been 15, there was nothing flukey about it, their goalkeeper was unbelievable and after they took the lead from a corner, which is probably our one remaining weakness at the moment, it was one-way traffic.

"Martin Merrett missed two one-on-ones and Williams and Boosey both went close before we equalised."

White described the last few weeks as "tough" but was delighted to see his team come through it.

He added: "The boys have dragged themselves through a tough month and that has been coming. We have stuck together and the performances recently have been something else."

Wanderers were due to make their bow in the Surrey Senior Cup at home to Walton & Hersham last night, while they travel to Lancing this Saturday.

Wanderers: Brewster, Suchy, Bissaka, Familton, S Duffell, Merrett, Hill (Osgood), Beckles (Siaw), Lyons, Boosey (M Evans), C Williams.
