STAFF at Surrey County Council have been accidentally overpaid by nearly £800,000 in the past three years, the Mirror can reveal.
Since 2010, 697 members of staff at the council have been overpaid by a total of £794,687 being incorrectly added to wage packets.
The biggest overpayment occurred last year when a member of staff received £15,085 in extra wages.
Another member of staff mistakenly received £11,919 in 2010 and another incorrectly got £9,001 in 2011.
The worst year for accidental payouts was 2010 when staff were given an extra £324,218.
In 2011/12 staff were overpaid £222,365 and last year wage packets were bulging with an extra £248,104, due to wrong payments or administrative errors.
A council statement, provided with the figures after a Freedom of Information request, said: "Where an overpayment has been made to an employee, a mutually agreed arrangement is made in-house to return the money and resolve the situation."
Similar figures released earlier this year revealed that councils across the country had accidentally overpaid 70,000 employees more than £50 million in the last three years.
