AN African wild cat described as a "small leopard" is on the loose in the West Molesey area – forcing police to issue a warning to residents.
The serval cat escaped from an address in Anne Way, West Molesey, this morning at about 9am.
Despite advising residents to call if they saw the cat, officers said it was "not believed to be dangerous".
The cat was spotted in the back garden of Allan Tinkler, from Molesey, at about 2pm, as shown above.
On its Facebook page, Elmbridge Police said: "Please be aware that we have received a report of a missing African Serval Cat.
"The cat escaped this morning from an address in Anne Way, West Molesey and is currently believed to be in the vicinity of Molesey Football Club or possible Cannon Way.
"The cat is about 18 inches tall and we have attached a photo for information purposes, but this is not a picture of the actual cat itself.
"The cat is NOT aggressive and we do not believe it to be dangerous, but it is obviously very scared and if it is cornered it will become frightened and may hiss etc.
"If you see the cat, please do not approach it but phone us on 999 and quote the incident reference number: P14215109. Sgt Greg Turner and local officers are currently patrolling the area and we will keep you updated."
