OLDER residents are urged to contribute their life experiences to a charity single to combat loneliness among the elderly.

Andy Burrell, manager of the Beeches care home in Leatherhead, is asking for Mole Valley's over-60s to drop in to the home to fill out a form describing the highlights of their lives.

Responses will be gathered at Anchor care homes across the country to create lyrics for the single, which will then be sung and played by residents of homes, including the Beeches and Keswick care home in Bookham.

Mr Burrell said: "Music is a powerful medium which brings people together and the record will give older people a voice. The lyrics of the song will be shaped by what people from across the country, including Leatherhead, mention on the forms."

The record will be sung by The Anchor Community Band, which will be made up of residents of the organisation's homes, and Mr Burrell is also hoping to find a local recording studio where the Leatherhead band members can record their song free of charge.

Money raised from the sales of the song will go towards Anchor's chosen charity, Contact the Elderly, which aims to combat the social isolation faced by older people who live alone.

Any over-60s wanting to share their experiences for the song, or recording studios wanting to help, can call Andy Burrell on 01372 227540.
