CAMPAIGNERS trying to save a Reigate care home have received another blow in their bid to seek high-level support.

"Ageing" Park Hall in Reigate and Dormers in Caterham – plus four other homes in Surrey – could be closed under plans being proposed by the county council. Attempts to get the backing of Prime Minister David Cameron to help save Park Hall has been rebuffed.

Amanda Weston, founder of the Save Park Hall Facebook page which has more than 1,050 followers, e-mailed Mr Cameron.

But a Department of Health officer replied saying the future of the home is the responsibility of Surrey County Council. A previous effort to engage the support of Reigate MP Crispin Blunt also floundered.

Mr Blunt said: "I understand Park Hall cannot provide some of the services which have become commonplace and necessary in modern times."

Mrs Weston said: "You can tell it's Christmas – the PM is playing 'pass the complaint'.

"Ho ho ho, merry Christmas Prime Minister."
