THE weather is set to go downhill in East Surrey with a warning of rain, sleet, or even wet snow for tonight and gales and heavy rain on Wednesday night (January 14). Weatherman Ian Currie has studied the weather charts and come out with a grim warning of stormy conditions tomorrow night with lashing rain. After all the rain of the last few days, this will not be welcome as conditions could lead to surface water flooding in places. Mr Currie said today: "It looks like there will be some rough weather indeed and it could be quite wintry at times. There could be sleet or wet snow on Reigate Hill later today (Tuesday) and overnight. It will stormy later tomorrow and on Thursday followed by sleet or snow showers. There are possibly some interesting developments late on Friday and Saturday." The Met Office has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain on Wednesday night covering Surrey and other Home Counties. The warning covers the period from 3pm on Wednesday to 9am on Thursday. This will be unwelcome news for those living in flood-prone areas. This morning, the River Mole had overflowed into meadows at Meath Green, Horley. Areas likely to be most affected by any wintry precipitation include Warlingham, Banstead, Lower Kingswood, Mogador, Woldingham, Farleigh, Chelsham and Fickleshole.
