A SCHOOL'S swimming pool needed to be evacuated in Copthorne today after a faulty extractor fan caused some of the pupils to feel nauseous.
Firefighters, Gatwick's Hazardous Area Response Team and paramedics rushed to Copthorne Preparatory School, in Effingham Lane, at around 12.30pm after children in the school's swimming pool reported feeling unwell. Staff and pupils had also noticed an unusual smell and suspected a gas leak.
36 pupils were evacuated and a spokesman from HART told the Mirror one child and three adults were treated at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.
A crew member from Horley said the cause was understood to be a defective heating and extractor fan system which had stopped removing air from the building, while continuing to heat it.
After conducting tests, firefighters concluded there were no dangerous substances in the pool's atmosphere and emergency services left at around 1.45pm.
