ON SUNDAY, Donyngs Indoor Bowls Club hosted the inaugural challenge match involving adults and youngsters who need special help to enjoy different sports.
The players include those in wheelchairs, and those with visual impairment and learning difficulties.
The occasion was attended by the mayor of Reigate & Banstead, councillor David Pay, and the mayoress, Barbara Pay, together with the deputy mayor, councillor John Stephenson.
The day's events were enabled by the generosity of Just Retirement, the Reigate-based retirement finance specialists.
Their significant donation enabled the club to make adaptations providing easier access to the club and the playing surface, as well as a new wheelchair for disabled bowlers.
The day was further supported and funded by Reigate ProBus Club and Horley Lions, whose generosity enabled the worthwhile event to go ahead, while many Donyngs IBC members attended
Participating organisations were Swans of Leatherhead, Puffins of Epsom, Crawley Visually Impaired Bowling Club, Dorking Community Project and Elmgrove Bowls Club of Elmbridge.
The challenge match was won by Dorking Community Project with Elmgrove Bowls Club runners-up.
