A teenage driver will face prosecution following a pursuit in Cranleigh Village yesterday.

The 17 year old was driving a red Vauxhall Corsa when he was spotted by a local neighbourhood officer. The car was suspected as having links with rural crime offences.

The neighbourhood officer attempted to bring the car to a halt but the Corsa made off, ignoring attempts by police vehicles to stop it.

The chase came to a dead end in Longpoles Road where the suspect jumped out the car and attempted to get away from the police on foot.

After a search of the area the driver, a local man, returned to the Corsa.

PC James Ansell, who ran after the youth said  "This result comes from local information about local crimes and demonstrates our determination to catch those who have any knowledge or are responsible for pursuing offences in our communities".

"It should serve as a reminder to everyone that the Safer Neighbourhood Team is always looking out for suspicious behaviour or activity on our roads. Surrey Police is determined to maintain neighbourhoods across the borough as safe and pleasant environments in which to live and work. It is committed to relentlessly pursuing criminals and keeping people safe."

The youth will be summoned to court, where he will face 3 charges of dangerous driving, driving without due care and failing to stop for police.
