THERE are plenty of strings to music prodigy Freya Barker's bow, it seems.

Already an accomplished pianist and violinist, she has made rapid strides in mastering the alto saxophone, all at the tender age of ten.

Freya, who lives in Albury Road, Merstham, received a double "present" shortly before Christmas – she learned she had passed her grade six saxophone exam with distinction, and also achieved grade six with distinction on the piano.

Freya, who attends Oakhyrst Grange School in Stanstead Road, Caterham, told the Mirror: "I enjoy playing the saxophone the most.

"I feel so free when I play it, but the violin is probably my best interest.

"I'd like to be a musician when I eventually leave school and play all sorts of instruments."

Remarkably she took both exams on the same day at her school on December 7.

Her saxophone teacher Jason Gardner , who lives in Knighton Road, Redhill, said: "Freya has made incredible progress, considering her age – and size.

"I don't know anyone of that age who has advanced so quickly.

"Passing grade six with distinction at the age of just ten is virtually unheard of. And her saxophone almost dwarfs her."
