A FANCY-DRESS football match raised £300 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association on Sunday.

The game was organised by Surrey Wanderers player Wez Brown at the club's home ground, the King George V playing field in Effingham.

The group was given the use of the pitch free of charge, and referee Rob Humphries waived his normal fee to help to raise the funds.

"My auntie suffers from it (motor neurone disease) at the moment, so it's quite close to me and my family," said Mr Brown, who lives in Surbiton but grew up in Bookham.

"Everyone still paid the match fee and some players were more generous as well.

"Afterwards in the bar we played a few games of pool for money and people were collecting on the sidelines."

A team in beachwear beat a team in general fancy dress 4-3, with both teams made up of Surrey Wanderers players and friends of Mr Brown.

"It was lifeguards and mankinis (a male bikini) out on the pitch; there were definitely a few sights," he said.
