A GROUP of Oxted residents should be in for a happier new year after council workmen finally solved a problem in their road.
Householders in Gibbs Brook Road, Oxted, have put up with flooding for two years but drainage ditches were cleared just before Christmas.
One frustrated resident, Terry Turner, 78, had resorted to using saucepans to try to bail out the water. Mr Turner, who said he first alerted Surrey County Council two years ago over the state of the road, has now seen his dismay turn to relief and joy.
He said a damaged drainage ditch at the roadside had been dug out again, enabling surface water to run free. Potholes on the road were fixed last spring.
Mr Turner said: "Despite all the rain, the water has been running clear beautifully.
"The council deserves a pat on the back for sorting it out, although it has taken a long while to achieve."
