A MYSTERIOUS winter visitor spotted in a reader's garden has been identified by an expert.
Brian Hunter-Rowe, of Chart Lane South, Dorking, e-mailed in a photo of a bird perched on the roof of his shed, and wildlife expert Adrian Brockless has identified it.
Mr Brockless said: "It's a rather soggy looking male sparrowhawk.
"If your reader has bird-feeders nearby, the chances are that it's on the hunt for a robin or blue tit or anything of comparable size."
Mr Hunter-Rowe said: "It perched on the roof of my shed long enough to take this photograph through a bedroom window.
"It looks about as happy as I did after all the rain we have had recently!"
