DORKING Cricket Club are looking to help girls reach their cricketing potential by integrating them into the club this season.
The club is looking to welcome girls of all ages, knowledge and abilities to play alongside the boys this season.
Judith Daniels is behind the plan and she says the long-term aim is to create a girls and women's section at the club, where girls can play competitive cricket.
She said: "Girls have been saying for a while that they have nowhere to play and we want to give them that opportunity.
"You look at the England women's team, who are awesome, and we want to help produce some cracking cricketers.
"I want them to play the best cricket that they can and I want every child to have the opportunity to reach their potential and shine as cricketers in Dorking."
As such, Daniels is writing to local schools about the prospect of girls joining the boys this coming season for training sessions at younger age groups and girls-only coaching sessions for older girls.
She said: "The earliest competitive age group is U9s and we intend for that to be a fully integrated, merit based squad from the outset where boys and girls can play together.
"They will be treated no differently and we want younger girls to come and join in the normal training sessions with the boys and we will make sure everyone gets the opportunity to play."
The intention is to start as part of winter training from February onwards with a cricket course in April ahead of the new season.
And Daniels said that she wants to create a low-key, fun environment for the girls initially, although longer term she says there is the potential to enter girls teams in cricket festivals and competitive fixtures themselves.
