POLICE have promised to take a tough stance on young people found with alcohol or illegal drugs at this weekend's Brockham Bonfire.
The event, billed as the largest display in the UK, takes place on Saturday night and officers have said they will take a "zero tolerance" approach.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Simon Cox said: "Surrey Police will be on the lookout for those who are underage in possession of alcohol and also people in possession of illegal drugs.
"If there is any suspicion, you will be searched and, if appropriate, you will be arrested.
"Please do not allow your children to bring alcohol to Brockham if they are underage and make sure you do not let them remove alcohol from your drinks cabinet.
"It is a criminal offence to supply alcohol to someone underage and we will investigate where the alcohol has come from."
Surrey Police, who seized huge quantities of alcohol from under age drinkers during last year's event, have also said they will be monitoring social networking sites to detect any illegal activity and urged parents to be vigilant.
"Please be aware of 'sleepover stories'," said Sergeant Cox. "It is your responsibility to know where your child is and that they are safe.
"Our aim is to make sure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable bonfire night and we will do everything we can to prevent the poor behaviour of the few people affecting the evening for everyone else."
