ANXIOUS residents have again called on the police and council to take action over flytipping after yet more rubbish was dumped on a country road.
People living near Rectory Lane in Woodmansterne are furious that more rubbish has been left strewn across the road just weeks after they pleaded for action. The material has ranged from general rubble to an old bath tub.
The residents have previously called on the police to install cameras around the dumping hotspot in an attempt to catch the culprits and have become fed up with having their road blocked.
"I want somebody to figure out who's doing it and get rid of them," said Anne Regan, 77. "We don't know where it's coming from. Whoever is doing it just drives past all the houses to the end of the road and then it looks like they just tip the lorry back and drop everything. We need a few more police patrols around there or cameras to catch people."
As previously reported by the Mirror, angry residents have called on police to install CCTV cameras at sites known to be targeted by dumpers. Now they have urged police and Reigate and Banstead Borough Council to work closer to stop the problem happening again.
Chairman of the Woodmansterne Residents Association John Dickson said: "This is the fifth or sixth time it's been dumped there now. We need some temporary CCTV installed. I think it's happening in other areas as well and we're hoping there will be some action either by the police or by the council."
Surrey County Council spokeswoman Joy Ridley said the authority made the site safe as soon as they were aware of the problem but said the job of investigating the problem actually lay with the borough council. She added: "We don't have powers to investigate or prosecute fly-tipping – that is a matter for the borough council, which we know is working closely with Surrey Police on this issue – and we would ask anyone who sees anything suspicious to contact the council."
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and the police say they are currently looking into the reports of flytipping in the area and have urged witnesses to report it to the council on 01737 276000.
