PART of Staines town centre was evacuated and a bomb disposal squad called in following reports of a suspicious package which later turned out to be a false alarm.
Police were called to a business premise in Staines High Street shortly after 11.30am today (Wednesday, March 6) following concerns about a package that had been delivered to the address.
A 100 metre cordon was put in place, which included parts of the High Street, London Road, Greenlands Road, Kingston Road, Sidney Road, Fairfield Avenue, Moormede Crescent and Matthews Lane. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit was in attendance but the package was found to be non-suspicious.
The cordon was fully lifted shortly after 3.20pm.Police had said they were keen to trace a courier who delivered the package with motorists advised to seek alternative routes.
