A FANTASTIC innings from Matt Spriegel laid the foundations for Banstead's third win of the season at Sutton on Saturday.
The Rams maintained their 100 per cent record in the Surrey Championship Premier Division with another disciplined display, which saw them post 248-8 from their 50 overs before dismissing Sutton for 177 in 47.3 overs.
Spriegel, a former Surrey player who now plays for Northamptonshire, was back for a rare appearance for the Rams and he made the most of it, scoring 92 runs from 118 balls in an innings that featured nine boundaries.
Spriegel was backed up by contributions from opener Harsha Vithana (34), Jak Martin (23), James O'Neill (18) and Aman Shinwari (34), but it was the Northamptonshire man who earned the plaudits of his captain, Tom Lancefield.
He said: "It was nice to have someone of Matt Spriegel's ability available for us and it really was a fantastic innings from him.
"We knew that once we had got close to 250, that was always going to be difficult for them and our bowlers made sure of that."
In the Sutton reply, only Johann Myburgh (36), Daniel Edwards (52) and Matthew Cawood (28no) got going, with Banstead's bowlers sharing the wicket.
Lancefield (2-37) and Dunn (2-41) grabbed two wickets each, while Shinwari (1-17), Richard Bedbrook (1-20), Spriegel (1-22) and Dan Gale (1-37) ensured that each bowler took at least one wicket for their efforts.
And Lancefield said that was reflective of his side's performance as a whole.
"I would say it was the most complete performance we have had so far this season," he said.
"We were dominant throughout the game and although it was a brilliant innings from Matt, our bowlers took wickets regularly to ensure we got the win."
