TADWORTH
and WALTON---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Walton
Heath deregistration
The Walton
Heath Golf Club has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and
Rural Affairs, under Section 16 of the Commons Act 2006, for most of the area
known as Beechams Field, forming part of the common land known as Walton Heath
to cease to be so registered. The area includes part of the bridle path known as
'The Gallops'.
The purpose
of of this application is to enable the Golf Club to construct a Practice Ground
for the hitting of golf balls. This could mean that the public would no longer
have the right of access to this part of the Heath. An area of land south of
the M25, with access by the footbridge across the motorway , and including
Watson's Wood and Round Wood, would be offered as the replacement land. This
would be registered as common land.
This
replacement land adjoins the top of Buckland Hills. It is shown on the relevant
plan with a 'proposed new observation point with wooden seats'. It is quite a
long way from the village of Walton-on-the-Hill.
A copy of
the application form and location of the lands can be inspected at Reigate &
Banstead Borough Council, Town Hall, Castlefield Road, Reigate between the hours
of 10.00 am and 4.00 pm weekdays, until 9th August 2013.
Any
objections or representations in respect of the proposed deregistration and
exchange should be sent in writing, ON or BEFORE 9th AUGUST, to
The Planning Inspectorate, Room 4/05, Kite Wing, Temple Quay House, 2 The
Square, Temple Quay, Bristol, BS1 6PN, or commonLandCasework@pins.gsi.gov.uk
As the
Reigate & Banstead Borough Council hold the last Right of Common to graze
cattle over the whole of Walton Heath, it is possible that the Council will have
an interest in this application.
It may be
remembered that the matter of a 'driving range' on Beecham's Field was discussed
at a for meeting, held at the Golf Club House on Saturday 5th January, and which
was attended by about 100 residents of Walton-on-the-Hill and Tadworth. Marbles
Way attempted theft
It is not
known if the Surrey Police has yet apprehended the two men who entered the
newsagent's shop on 4th July. Anyone with any information on this offence is
asked, as a matter of urgency, to contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference
RB/13/5347.
The
newsagent says that one of the two men involved stood outside his shop, while
the second went round the counter to open the till. In the meanwhile the
newsagent managed to get out of his shop and seek help from the neighbouring
shop owner. The first offender was not able to open the till, then ran out of
the shop and the two men quickly ran off; no doubt to a waiting vehicle. School
raises money for charities
Tadworth
Primary school held it annual 'Wimbledon' day recently when Year Four children
had a day full of tennis and refreshments. This year £205 was raised for the
Great Ormond Street Hospital. In the afternoon a nurse came from that hospital
to explain to the children how their money will be used.
On Tuesday
afternoon of last week, Year 1 held their Charity Garden Party when they raised £250 for the RSPCA.
It is very
pleasant to see the children doing so much to help others when, around the
country, so many people only consider themselves. Strawberry
tea
If anyone
reads this column before the afternoon of publication day, they will be able to
plan to visit the home of Margaret and David Fitch, at 13 Tadorne Road,
Tadworth, where they will be able to enjoy a strawberry tea, in aid of Breast
Cancer. The Admission is just £4 which includes the tea and home-made cakes.
There will also be a Bring & Buy table and a Raffle. Conservation
area?
There is an
application to the Reigate & Banstead Borough Council to demolish the
premises known as 'Southerndown' in Egmont Park Road, Walton- on-the-Hill, and
to erect on the site two detached dwellings with detached garages. This
application is in a conservation area. It appears that such a restriction is no
longer recognised as meaning 'act of conserving' or 'preservation in a safe or
entire state', but is completely ignored by the planning authority, for much of
the conservation area of Walton-on-the-Hill has changed out of all
recognition.
