A man has been given a 30 month jail sentence after admitting on-line grooming offences against a girl from Surrey. Ajay Mitra, 32, of Clifford Road in South Norwood was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court after previously pleading guilty to charges of attempting to meet a girl under 16 following sexual grooming and after attempting to cause a child under 13 to watch a sexual act. He was arrested outside McDonalds in Redhill on Wednesday, May 15 following an investigation from Surrey Police's Paedophile Online Investigation Team. At the time of the arrest it was thought he had travelled to the area to meet the victim. Detective Inspector Paul Gordon, of Surrey Police's Paedophile Online Investigation Team, said: "I welcome the custodial sentence for Mitra which represents the culmination of a complex investigation which involved a large number of Surrey Police officers. "Mitra's behaviour in persistently targeting such a young victim over a number of weeks was clearly extremely concerning but thanks to the proactive work carried out by Surrey Police officers we were able to intercept and arrest him and he was later charged with a number of offences. "Surrey Police takes all on-line offences extremely seriously and we will continue to use all available resources to bring those who prey on young and vulnerable people on-line to justice. "We will continue to relentlessly pursue those individuals who commit on-line offences and bring them before the courts."
