COUNCILLORS have approved a development of new affordable homes in a conservation area. The G Lee-Steere 1992 Trust gained permission to build ten new properties in Ockley on previously undeveloped land beside the 1923 village hall at Pippbrook tonight. The scheme is supported by Ockley Parish Council on the condition the four one-bedroom flats, four two-bedroom houses and two three-bedroom houses are reserved "for those with a strong connection to Ockley". Letters had been sent by five villagers unreservedly supporting the scheme, which includes 16 parking spaces. A further two wrote in support but expressed concerns over the potential effect on the use of, and access to, the village hall. However, another four people opposed the development, with the knock-on effects on car parking, lorry access to communal recycling containers, and possible conflicts between new residents and village hall users over noise among their worries.
