LITTER at Godstone's M25 junction will be tackled as part of a new campaign by Surrey County Council.
The roundabout was cited by council leader David Hodge as one of Surrey's "litter hotspots" as he launched a campaign to tackle what he branded a "blight" on the county.
He said: "Surrey is a beautiful place to live, but too often it is blighted by thoughtless people dropping their litter.
"Hotspots include littering in central Guildford and at the M25 roundabout at Godstone."
He added: "These are just a few examples from councils and residents of a wider problem which also affects our main roads, our footpaths and our train stations. The clear-up costs thousands of taxpayers' pounds each year."
Cllr Hodge, who is a representative for Warlingham, commended the work of borough and district councils to tackle littering and called on schools to instil good habits in youngsters.
"As county council leader, I have launched a campaign that fully backs the work on tackling litter," he said.
"I am asking every Surrey school to prioritise teaching good habits on this issue so pupils lead by example for decades to come."
Godstone litter was highlighted 12 months ago, when Tandridge District Council revealed it spent £695,000 clearing up the district in a year.
Councillors laid some of the blame at the feet of drivers who throw garbage from their cars as they pass through.
