OFFICES in the town centre are set to be replaced with flats. Plans to partly demolish Saxley Court in Victoria Road to make way for 43 one and two bedroom apartments have been approved.

Reigate and Banstead Borough Council's planning committee gave the proposals, by Alpha UK Property Fund, the green light last week.

The proposal would convert and remodel the ground floor retail use for ongoing retail use, and convert the three floors above into flats.

This would then be linked to a new-build five-storey block of apartments at the back of the building.

There will be parking spaces for 17 cars, but it is intended that most residents will use nearby public transport links.

Councillor David Powell said at the commitee meeting on Thursday: "We do need more residents in Horley town centre. I think this is a really good development and I fully support it."
