THE temperature in East Surrey soared this afternoon (Friday)to 29.9C (86F)- making it the hottest day of the year.
It beat Thursday's maximum temperature of 29.5C(85F).
The reading was measured at Reigate Grammar School's automatic weather station at 5.30pm.
Chocolate bars were removed from sale from one stall on Redhill market as they were melting in the heat today.
The Met Office has warned of the potential of intense thunderstorms after midnight and during Saturday.
Last night the temperature failed to drop below 18C (64F)in Reigate, according to the equipment at the grammar school in Reigate Road.
Last year saw hotter conditions, however, with the warmest day of the year being on August 1st when 33.5C (92F) was recorded.
